SELECTMEN'S COMMENTS: David thanked everyone who helped prepare the school's gymnasium for Lloyd's Retirement Party and those who helped with the clean up afterwards. David stated that he had received a telephone call from a neighbor concerned about rats at 22 Woodbridge Rd. David asked the Town's Health Officer, Dr. Dumdey to inspect the property. Dr. Dumdey found the property to be clean and no signs of rats.
PUBLIC COMMENTS: None.
OLD BUSINESS:
a. Milt Carlton Road Turnaround - After much discussion as to Pine Tree Waste using a big truck to pick up trash and having some degree of difficulty turning around on dead end streets, it was decided to send the Town's Contract with Pine Tree Waste to Maine Municipal Association to have their legal department review its contents. No one had a problem with the truck using the turn around but the concern was with such a big truck that these roads were being damaged. If a dumpster were used to eliminate the need of the truck going down dead end roads, there would be a charge to the town and there would be the issue of securing the dumpster so that it is used for its intended purpose for refuse generated by residents of the immediate area and not being vandalized.b. Other: Ed's Stuff on Main St. is still an issue. M.D.O.T. has done what they felt comfortable with to try to have the owner remove "stuff" from the right-of-way. The Fire Chief needs to re-inspect the property because the interior of the building is loaded with "stuff" and doesn't appear to have suitable aisles to walk through. The sidewalk and alleged parking was a concern to neighbors. It was also noted that the rear of the property is an eyesore. This issue will be on the next Selectmen's Meeting Agenda for further discussion.
ROAD COMMISSIONER'S REPORT: David commended Jack, Jason, the Fire Chief and all the crews involved for the great job they did in handling all the calls involved in the "Patriot's Day Storm". Everyone did a super job in removing downed trees and clearing roads of debris. Jack stated that he was concerned about three trees in the immediate area of the Grange parking lot that should be taken care of.
CEO/FIRE CHIEF'S REPORT: Ken stated that his firemen responded to 84 calls, 38 downed trees, 6 flooded roads, they pumped 22 basements. His department had 270 man hours at a cost of $4,158.95 for labor, food and fuel. Some equipment had to be sent out for repair. He met with FEMA in Augusta on Friday. There is a meeting scheduled for Monday at 9:00 a.m. at Town Hall for possible reimbursement of 75 cents on the dollar. Dan Skillin inquired of the Fire Chief why no one responded in March to a call at Delano Road for a tree down on power lines. Ken explained that BIW no longer allows their employees to leave work to report to emergency calls. The next in command was advised and contacted the Sagadahoc Communications Center personnel to contact Wiscasset for mutual aid. The system worked. Ken reported that Jake Kaiser will be promoted to Assistant Chief and Dickey Brigance will be promoted from Lieutenant to Captain.
